Grant Hagan Society

January 28, 2020

The graduate student body recently founded the Grant Hagan Society in Fall 2019, an affinity group to support students of color. Named for two pioneering African-American women musicians at Yale, Effie Ella Grant (1885?–1983) and and Helen Eugenia Hagan (1891–1964), the Society aims to foster a sense of camaraderie among people of color within music studies and serve as a safe space for discussion of race and diversity on campus. On February 14, we will hold our first event, “Navigating the (Music) Academic Job Market as a Person of Color,” featuring our own Daphne Brooks and Michael Veal, as well as Alex Chávez (University of Notre Dame), Ellie Hisama (Columbia University), and Matthew Morrison (NYU). For more information, visit http://campuspress.yale.edu/granthagan/
