Anna Zayaruznaya

October 23, 2017

Professor Anna Zayaruznaya spent the week of October 9 in Venice, Italy, introducing a select group of international singers  on to the important early fourteenth-century music manuscript of the Roman de Fauvel (Bibliothèque Nationale de France fr. 146). At a workshop convened by Pedro Memelsdorff, Zayaruznaya and Margaret Bent (Oxford University) helped the singers interpret the manuscript’s notation and learn about its history, while Benjamin Bagby (of the ensemble Sequentia) worked with them on a selection of monophonic and polyphonic pieces from this source. The week culminated in a concert in the Auditorium “Lo Squero” on San Giorgio island. Yale Alum Sylvia Leith (2016) was among the nine singers who participated.
