Stephen Paul Guerra (2012) is a Ph.D. student of music theory. He holds a B.S. in systems engineering (focusing on finance and management) from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.M. in music theory (with concentration in classical guitar performance and composition) from the Boyer College of Music at Temple University. Between these, Stephen worked professionally for several years as a financial analyst. Stephen’s music-theoretical interests center around rhythm and meter, and harmony and counterpoint. He is drawn to the music from the ‘extended common practice’ and to art, popular, and folk music of Brazil. Stephen also studies Brazilian percussion and is an active solo/ensemble guitarist, drawing his inspiration primarily from the music of Brazilian guitarists Baden Powell and Raphael Rabello.
