I am a PhD candidate in Music History. Before coming to Yale, I earned a BA in Music & Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, and an MSt in Musicology (with distinction) at the University of Oxford. My dissertation revisits the genealogy of tonality through a series of case studies in the cultural history of Italian vernacular song during its first century in print, tracking abstractions of tonal organization as they circulated among musical ecologies. Other fields of interest include music and language, biosemiotics, music recommendation software, music and race, and art theory and art historical methods.
