Jeffrey Klitz ’81 returns to Yale and the Shen Curriculum in the Fall semester 2017 to reprise his course, Arranging for Voices, MUSIC 331. Jeffrey first taught the course in the fall term of 2011 and received high praise for both his expertise and his commitment to the students enrolled.
Klitz is a well known music director, conductor, arranger and pianist whose Broadway music director/conductor credits include Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Lennon, Guys & Dolls (revival), Song and Dance and On Your Toes. In addition, Jeffrey has been music director and pianist for such performers as Judy Collins, Betty Buckley, Joanna Gleason, Joel Grey and Paulo Szot. He produced and arranged Judy Kuhn’s CD, Serious Playground, and contributed arrangements and orchestrations to Victoria Clark’s CD, Fifteen Seconds of Grace. Jeffrey has also served as arranger and orchestrator for the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony and the Walt Disney Studios; and arranger and producer for Paul McCartney’s music publishing house, MPL Music Publishing.
As a Yale undergraduate, Jeffrey performed with the Alley Cats and Yale Whiffenpoofs and has maintained his ties to both groups as an arranger and advisor. His course picks up the passion for vocal music and a cappella singing on campus and subjects it to a rigorous examination of both its historical antecedents and the skills required to produce high quality vocal arrangements.
